The Advanced Clean Cars II Act

CARB has recently passed a law that will require automotive manufacturers to produce 100% EVs and PHEVs by 2035, with 80% of production geared towards EVs and 20% of production towards PHEVs. What’s more, gas-powered cars will be phased out. This means that, as we wait for 2035 to roll around, automotive manufacturers will be required to produce an increasing percentage of EVs and PHEVs.

In order to encourage consumers to switch to EVs sooner than later, the state of California offers a number of incentives for Valencia to make the move. As for the environmental impact, this move is expected to slash 25% of emissions in California by 2037! And if that weren’t incentive enough, bear in mind that any PHEV or EV you purchase now is going to have a more stable residual value than a gas-powered model.

If you’re wondering about the main reason behind this law, it is to reduce smog-causing pollution from light-duty vehicles. As a result, the federal air quality standards will be met, benefiting all Californians. It’s estimated that the regulation will help avoid health impacts worth nearly $13 billion from 2026 to 2040. This includes 1,290 fewer cardiopulmonary deaths, 460 fewer hospital admissions for cardiovascular or respiratory illness, and 650 fewer emergency room visits for asthma.
